Cub Scout Pinewood Derby

Leechburg Elks Site of Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Cub Scouts from the River Valley District of the Moraine Trails Council recently gathered in the Ballroom of the Leechburg Elks for the District’s 2008 Pinewood Derby.

The top three finishing Cub Scouts from each pack in the district were invited to attend. They were greeted by Exalted Ruler, Bill Carroll.

Major Anthony Shea (US Air Force, retired) was invited by the District Scout Leaders to speak with the Cubs on the importance of our Troops in keeping our world free and to honor the soldiers past, present, and future who serve our country.

The races were very exciting and the Scouts, parents, and grandparents all watched intently to see who would win.

The winners with the fastest cars were:

First Place, Nathan Gillespie
Second Place, Andrew Arndt
Third Place, Max Bico
Fourth Place, Tret McElfresh
Fifth Place Jacob McClain.

Each was presented a trophy.

Special awards were won by:

Tony Painter for most colorful car
Mike Slagle , best decorated
Jake Stitt, most attractive
Nick Karns, most humorous
Ethan Brewer, best decorated
Jimmy Switzer, most original
Ross Johns, most patriotic, .

All of the boys who participated in the race were given a "Speeding Citation" by Leechburg Police Chief, Michael Diebold and a ribbon from the Council.
