Story Date: December 03, 2009

On Monday, November 23, 2009 a group of ten tenth graders and two seniors accompanied teacher Michelle Ferretti to the Leechburg VFW Post 330 to assist in the distribution of groceries for Thanksgiving dinner. Post Commander, Patty Ameno, had made all of the arrangements for the supplies and the students unloaded the delivery vehicles and then helped to pack up bags for deliveries. Families received all the necessary items to prepare a full Thanksgiving dinner. Individuals also received all the items to prepare a meal for themselves . The students were instrumental in the process.

In addition, students were given a history lesson by Ms. Ameno. They discussed the various branches of the Armed Forces, the current conflict and the history of the VFW. They then had the opportunity to view the mural in Liberty Square as Ms. Ameno explained the symbols illustrated on the building.

The students did earn community service hours for their participation. However, a greater appreciation of Thanksgiving was achieved by all.
