Late Summer Festivals End

Sunday's activities ended with a visit to both festivals that decided to be held on the same weekend. I did not vist either festival Friday or Saturday, but I did see the fireworks show downtown from my porch.

There was more of a crowd at the Gilpin festival today, but I'm assuming that is because the Summerfest was scheduled to end around 5 or 6 today. It doesn't seem nearly as popular as it once was, but again, I was not there when it was in full swing. It seems to me that the festival was actually in July last year. Does this mean there will be no actual festival this year?

There was an interesting article in the Valley News Dispatch that mentioned that the church in Gilpin was raising money for their new church. That "Future home" sign has been up there for a long time. They have raised just over 2 million dollars out of the 3 million needed to start.

Just think, assuming there was only 2,000 people living in Leechburg Boro (There is actually around 2,300), you could split up 3 million dollars and give every citizen $1,500. That would be a nice gain og $6,000 for a family of 4. Not that I think the church should not have the money, I was just trying to size up how large that actually is.
